Description

Two castles, one harbour

Explore the history of Falmouth’s harbour with your own local guide, visiting the two coastal fortresses built to protect its entrance.

Beginning at Pendennis Castle, discover its military history and the role it played in defending the Cornish coast for more than 400 years. From its elevated position, there are extensive views across Falmouth Bay and the Fal Estuary.

Continue across the water by passenger ferry to St Mawes, where the smaller coastal fortress stands opposite Pendennis. Built during the reign of Henry VIII, the two castles were designed to work together to defend the entrance to the Carrick Roads.

Along the way, your guide will share the history of the harbour, its coastal defences and the people who lived and worked here.

The experience combines historic sites, coastal scenery and time on the water, with the opportunity to explore both castles at a comfortable pace.
